    Clio (Grk ΚΛΕΕΙΝ “to celebrate”), Muse of history, carried a wreath and a scroll. By Pierus, she was the mother of Hyacinth. In postclassical representations, her scroll commonly bears the name of one of the great historians of the ancient world, either Thucydides or Herodotus.
