Sirens
The Sirens are the daughters of the River Achelous and the Muse Melpomene. They wandered off at the rape of Prosperina and came to the land of Apollo. There, at the wish of Ceres because they had not helped Proserpina they were transformed into winged creatures. (2) An oracle was given to them that they would live for as long as they would sing and no man person who heard them would get past them. Ulysses was their demise. For, when he astutely sailed past the reef on which they spent their time, they threw themselves into the sea. The archipelago between Sicily and Italy we call The Sirenides is named after them.
