Aeneas, Apotheosis.
Venus, seeing her son Aeneas well established in Latium and the house of lulus (Ascanius) flourishing around him, asked her father, Jupiter, to make Aeneas immortal. Jupiter agreed and had Numicus, the horned river-god, wash away all mortality from the hero. Venus then touched Aeneas’s lips with nectar and he took his place among the gods on Olympus.
This subject is not treated by Virgil. Representations in the visual arts depict Aeneas welcomed by the Olympian gods.
