Aeneas, Flight from Troy.
During the sack of Troy by the Greek forces, Hector’s shade appeared to Aeneas, warning him to flee the doomed city. In the final battle Aeneas saw Priam killed and encountered Helen of Troy hiding in the palace. He would have killed her, but his mother, Venus, appeared and stopped him, imploring him to save his family.
Aeneas fled the burning city with his son Ascanius (later called lulus or Ilus) and his father Anchises, whom he carried on his shoulders. He also took the penates (household gods). His wife, Creusa, following behind, was lost; Aeneas later met her shade, which revealed to him his destiny as the founder of the Roman race.
