Two passages from Aesch. Ag. are operative: Taplow's recitation of Ag. 1400 against Crocker-Harris' corrections, and Taplow's tender dedicatory inscription of Ag. 951-52.

The retiring schoolmaster becomes an Agamemnon, murdered figuratively by his adulterous wife.
