Caesar's Palace Resort and Casino opened in 1966, designed by Jay Sarno and produced by Stanley Mallin. The first high-rise hotel casino in Las Vegas, the resort has continued to develop in intervening years; but the pastiche of Roman imperial opulence cum decadence has always been part of the package. The outdoor statuary — including a replica of the Prima Porta Augustus, a reworking of the Trevi Fountain, and others around the grounds — outfits an elaborate adaptation of the classical past with a suggestive present.
