It is intriguing to think of this same sculpture merged into the sacrifice of Iphigenia, as conceived at the Ny Carlsberg Glyptothek (click here).

1^st or 2^nd century AD Roman copy of a 4^th-century Greek original—thought by some to be by Leochares, like the Belvedere Apollo. Replicas found at Imperial-age sites in Leptis Magna and Antalya.
Restored in 1602, having been acquired by French king Henri II in 1556, a gift from Pope Paul IV. Louis XIV moved it to Versailles for a while (thus its name) but it was reacquisitioned for the French State in the Revolution.
