Minus the sexual overtness of a typical bacchanlia, the Disney version has most everything else: "Ancient Dionysiac rituals were conducted by maenads (bacchantes), mortal young women who became possessed with the wanton spirit of the god. In antique representations they are often accompanied by satyrs; together they sang, danced, played music, drank wine, and existed in an almost perpetual state of sexual excitement. Traditional attributes of bacchic revelers include animal skins and garlands (although satyrs are usually nude); maenads carry the thyrsus, a pole wreathed in ivy and topped with a pinecone, which served as both a magic wand and a weapon."
