François Boucher (1703-1770), "Jupiter in the Guise of Diana, and the Nymph Callisto" (1759), oil on canvas; Kansas City, Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, William Rockhill Nelson Trust, obj. no. 32-29.

As described in Ovid Metamorphoses, 2.425-40, Jupiter's subterfuge was not unresisted by Callisto. Boucher here makes Callisto quite compliant. The Jovian eagle lurks like a sinister voyeur, as one sees in the 1763 treatment at the Met.
