Hyginus, Fabulae 48, 158, 166.4
48. The Kings of Attica are these: Cecrops a son of Earth, Cephalus a son of Deion, Erichthonius son of Vulcan, Pandion a son of Erichthonius, Erechtheus a son of Pandion, Aegeus a son of Pandion, Theseus son of Aegeus, Demophon son of Theseus.
158. The Sons of Vulcan are these: Philammon, Cecrops, Erichthonius, Corynetes, Cercyon, Philottus, and Spinther.
166.3-4 Ericthonius’ Birth Legend: … Neptune then (after the Contest) became angry with Minerva and incited Vulcan to seduce Minerva. When she had been lured for this cause into his bedroom, Minerva by Jupiter’s urging defended her virginity with weapons. Indeed, from the semen which fell onto the ground during their scuffle a boy was born which had lower extremities of a serpent. They named Erichtonius for a reason, namely because the Greek word ἔρις means “strife” and χθὼν means “earth”. Since Minerva wanted to rear him secretly, she handed him over for safe keeping in a basket to Aglaurus, Pandrosus, and Herse, daughters of Cecrops.
