The creators of Supergiant's Hades II underpin the odyssey of Melinoë with the theme of "stopping time". The protagonist must defeat Time incarnate and other netherworld bosses in her quest. The game depends upon their dynamic conflation of Χρόνος/ΧΡΟΝΟΣ = Chronos “time” with Κρόνος/ΚΡΟΝΟΣ = Cronus, Kronos, the Titan Saturn.

In this regard the reception of Cronus in the hands of Supergiant is both learned and novel. Panofsky observers that such applications of Time = Cronus/Saturn are "symptomatic of an age-old re-interpretation of the iconography of Cronus whereby the father of the Olympians becomes Father Time."
