Michelangelo’s drawing for Tommaso de’Cavalieri (1532–33) is now lost. Another copy exists in Harvard’s Fogg Art Museum. Yet other drawings are collected in the Uffizi. An engraving is attributed to N. Beatrizet, and paintings were made after Michelangelo’s original by other artists, such as the copies at Hampton Court, the Kunsthistorisches Museum, and the Neues Palais in Potsdam.

This copy is cataloged as Royal Library, Windsor Castle, no. 13036 by Reid in OGCMA.

Hogarth’s Marriage a la Mode, scene 4 “The Toilette” uses the motif to caption the character of the castrato singing.
