Nakian engaged the myth of Leda and the Swan in many media and in scores of reproductions throughout his career. Reid lists only a handful of discreet entries, but each is multifaceted and there should be more.

It is worth noting that Nakian regarded the interaction between Leda and the Swan as amusing and therefore returned to it again and again and again. This theme and nymphs cavorting with goats or satyrs occupy much of Nakian's opera.
