BYU-MOA's Monet portal lists 21 paintings by Ottinger, only one with a classical theme.

Hyginus Fab. 95 says that Odysseus tried to avoid inscription in the Greek expedition to Troy, because he knew Halitherses' oracle (Od. 2.155f.) that he would not return for 20 years ... and even then without companions. Feigning madness, Odysseus yoked an ox with a horse and began to plow the sandy seashore. Palamedes, suspecting the madness was a ruse, used baby Telemachus for a test, which Odysseus failed. Saving Telemachus, Odysseus revealed himself.
