stub for later treatment?

worth comparing for its bombast with the Waterhouses Ulysses and the Sirens

            images/SirensWaterhouse.jpg

Waterhouse puts in 7 sirens; Ewerhard has 3 (the classical number?)

Waterhouses sirens are depicted as harpies, as are Ewerrhards; but Ws are clothed

Waterhouses seascape is relatively serene, while Ewerhards is tempestuous

Herbert James Draper — 0741OdysseusSirens_Draper.htm — has three mermaids on a slightly tempestuous sea

There could be some connection. Indeed an undisputable nod to Draper (http://www.mythimedia.org/symphonyx.htm)

Ewerhards painting is a sort of conglomeration of these two fin de siecle conceits.

Ewerhard has his own website
