Tennessee Williams Orpheus Descending, (1957), stage drama, revision of Battle of Angels, symbolic modern recasting of the Orpheus legend, first performed 21 Mar 1957, Martin Beck Theatre, New York.

Williams approached the Orpheus theme in Battle of Angels (1940)=1.0352a, "Orpheus Descending", poem in In the Winter of Cities (1955) =2.0352, the revised drama, Orpheus Descending (1957)=1.0352b, and in his co-authored screenplay of The Fugitive Kind (1960) =2.0352b.
