David Mazzucchelli, Asterios Polyp (Pantheon Books, 2009), graphic novel; chapter 16 narrates Asterios' loss and attempted recovery of Hana from the underground of the New York City subway.

Asterios envisions the loss of Hana as a result of her having become involved in a pretentious stage production called "Orpheus (Underground)". Within the space of a few chapters, Hana has come more and more under the direction of the loathsome impresario Willy Ilium who plays the role of Aristaeus in the love triangle, but he also sends the couple out of the underworld as Pluto would have. In Asterios' ill-starred life as a successful architect, Hana has offered the only real stable romantic relationship. With the loss of Hana, Asterios' life spirals into a emotional and social abyss.
