From a workshop in the Cyclades.

Bellerophon was dispatched by Iobates, king of Lycia, on several dangerous missions, certain that he would not survive. One of these was the mission to kill the Chimaera.

Homer describes the Chimaera as a monstrous concoction of lion, goat, and snake, all fire-breathing. Ilid 6.154 – 202.

Pindar is the earliest to associate Athena’s help with the heroic bridling of the winged horse.
