OGCMA s.v. "Perseus and Andromeda"

Piero di Cosimo, c. 1462-1521, “Perseus Frees Andromeda” 1513, Uffizi, Florence, inv. no. 1536 (previously attr. to Leonardo da Vinci and Piero, als to Filippino Lippi.

Piero di Cosimo also engaged the theme in ca. 1500 in "The Propagation of Coral"; but, the painting cycle of Perseus and Andromeda attributed to him (Uffizi, inv. 509, 510, 514) is sometimes attributed instead to Maestro di Serumido.

Painted around 1513, as it may have reference allegorically to the return of the de’ Medici in 1512, which ended the Florentine Republican period.
