Also portrayed in numerous other comics, novels, television shows, and films based on the X-Men franchise.

Phoenix is the incredibly powerful alter-ego of Jean Grey, a mutant who, prior to her transformation, had moderate psychic abilities. After her transformation into Phoenix following a near-death experience wherein she had to access for the first time her full psychic abilities, she returned as Phoenix. Like her namesake, Phoenix returned from near destruction more powerful than ever.
