Minos of Cnossos was taking charge of the Mediterranean. Nisus, King of Megara, was withstanding. Prophecy: As long as Nisus could preserve his magic lock of crimson colored hair, his military/naval prowess would prevail. Infatuated with her father's enemy, Scylla stole into her father's bedroom and shore the fateful lock from his head. Driven to crime by love, she appalls Minos. She is transformed into the seabird Ciris the Shearer and pursued constantly by the falcon (into which Nisus was transformed).

Context among other perverse lovers assures identification with Scylla, daughter of Minos (and not Scylla the Crataeis, the nymph abused by Circe in her love for Glaucus).
