Talos the automaton, robotic sentinel of Crete.
Minos' brazen sentinel, given by Zeus to guard the island's shores or to keep Europa safe from marauding pirates. Talos' anatomy featured a single vein, containing ichor, which ran from neck down to his ankle, where a bronze stopper contained it. As the draconian enforcer of Zeus' law, he incinerated lawless criminals by heating his brazen body to smoldering red and embracing them. With superhuman strength he threw stones at approaching ships to keep them from landing.
Talos was destroyed either by Medea, who worked frightening magic against him from afar (which astonished Apollonius in an editorial aside). Others say that Talos was shot in his vulnerable heel by Poeas.
