Salvatore Viganò, 1769-1821, scenario and choreography, I Titani (The Titans), epic ballet, with music by Gioacchino Rossini, with Viganò and Ayblinger, first performed 1819 at La Scala, Milan, with scenery by Alessandro Sanquirico.

Produced in 1819 at La Scala, I Titani was one of V.'s final ballets. Massive sets included (act II) titanically large representations of Prometheus and other Titans which dwarfed the human actors or (act VI's finale) the set that included the Throne of Olympian Zeus and also the massive peak of Titan's Ossa/Pelion constructed in Act IV.

It shows a watercolor plate from the Raccolta di scene teatrali (vid. right sidebar) vol. 1, tav. 47, a depiction of Viganò's stage design for Act V of I Titani.
Its caption translates to 'The ballet "The Titans" Act VI "Olympus" the summit of the massif piled up by the Titans which already surpasses the clouds and excedes to the celestial realm.
