Actaeon.

    The son of Aristaeus and Autonoe and the grandson of Cadmus, Actaeon had the misfortune of discovering Artemis (Diana) as she bathed with her nymphs in the nude. The chaste goddess, embarrassed and startled, splashed Actaeon with water and transformed him into a stag. As he stumbled through the woods, his hunting dogs attacked him and tore him to pieces. In the Metamorphoses, Ovid states that the gods disagreed about the punishment Artemis handed the unfortunate hunter: some thought she was merciless; others felt that she was justified in defending her chastity.
