Penthesilea.
Daughter of Ares, Penthesilea was a queen of the Amazons. When she accidentally killed another Amazon (Hippolyta, Melanippe, or Glauce), Penthesilea asked King Priam of Troy for purification. In return, she promised to aid the Trojans against the Greeks. Achilles wounded her in battle, but the dying queen was so beautiful that he fell in love with her in the instant of her death. For this, Thersites jeered at him and was killed by a single blow.
An alternate version of the myth, common in medieval romances, says that Penthesilea was killed after Achilles' death by his son Neoptolemus (Pyrrhus).
