Gods and Goddesses: Conflict between Vice and Virtue.
In the postclassical arts, gods and goddesses (mostly related to the Roman pantheon) and other mythological figures are often represented in allegories of virtue overcoming vice. Deities such as the chaste Diana and the righteous Minerva (or her Greek counterpart, Pallas Athene) are commonly seen in conflict with satyrs, the drunken Bacchus, or lascivious Venus; mischievous Cupid also personifies vice.
