The personification of the evening star, in early myth Hesperus was the son of Eos (Aurora) and Astraeus or Cephalus. A later myth, identifying him as the son or brother of Adas, relates that he disappeared in a whirlwind while climbing up Mount Adas to observe the stars. In the post-classical arts Hesperus is sometimes associated with wedding songs (epithalamia) or with the marriage god Hymen (Hymenaeus).
