Mars.
The Roman god of power, particularly of war. Mars (or Mavors) was the second most important deity (after Jupiter) in the Roman pantheon. Festivals and cult of Mars at Rome seem primarily associated with preparations for and closing of the military campaigning season, even if these may have intended originally to marking his role as a vegetation god. Augustus established the cult of Mars Ultor (Mars the Avenger) to mark his military victory over Caesar's assassins at Philippi. Thereafter and into modern civilization almost all of Mars' mythology was borrowed from the Greek god Ares. (See Ares)
