Merope.
Queen of Messenia (Messene), Merope was the wife of Cresphontes, one of the Heraclides (descendants of Heracles). Her husband and two of her sons were killed by another Heraclid, Poly-phontes, whom Merope was forced to marry. She saved one son, Aepytus, and sent him out of the country. When grown to manhood, Aepytus returned, killed Polyphontes, and regained the throne of Messenia. Hyginus called Aepytus by the name Telephontes, which is often used in postclassical dramatic and operatic treatments.
