Sisyphus in Ovide Moralisé.
The allegorizing author of Ovide moralisé (anonymous, 14th Century) supposes that in Orpheus' visit to the Underworld, we are to consider Sisyphus' toils to reflect the sufferings of an ambitious man who yearns for the glory of the world but gains nothing in the end. In spite of incessant attempts, failure invariably ensues. Sisyphus manifests the essence of the vanity of human wishes.
