The Roman goddess of fruit, Pomona was the guardian of her own sacred orchard. She was variously described as so devoted to her orchards that she spurned all suitors, and as the mother of Faunus by Picus. According to Ovid, she was successfully wooed by Vertumnus. As a fertility figure, Pomona is often represented in postclassical art as a personification of Summer or Autumn. since she is usually depcited with an apple, she has been associated with the biblical Eve. .
