Achilles, Afterlife.
According to Homer, Achilles was sent after his death to the Underworld, where his shade met Odysseus (Ulysses), who told him of the prowess of his son Neoptolemus (Pyrrhus). In a later, more common version of the myth, Achilles was taken' by his mother, Thetis, to the Black Sea island of Leuce—called the Island of the Blest or White Island—where she restored him to life and immortality. Achilles was then united with Helen of Troy.
Goethe’s Faust popularized the identification of Faust, who also desired to possess the most beautiful of women, with Achilles in afterlife. This theme has enjoyed great prominence in poetry, music, and dance.
