Marcantonio Raimondi, ca. 1480-before 1534, "The Abduction of Helen", engraving, ca. 1520-27, Metropolitan Museum of Art, acc. no. 2012.136.859, Bequest of Phyllis Massar, 2011 (=Bartsch no. 209).

The composition of Raimondi's engraving seems to have been derived from a (now lost) work by Raphael, and copied by É. Delaune in an engraving a few years later (ParisHelen2.0002_Delaune). The popularized design appears also in a maiolica-ware dish at the Met (PH2.0003_DaRovigo). A lovely 16th-cent. tapestry by the Gobelins workshop replicates the same scene, also; it is preserved at the Chateau Cheverny in France's Loire Valley. (ParisHelen2.0001_Gobelins).
